Interior Design Trends are exciting to watch and be a part of, and the trends for 2009 are no exception!
Interiors that create an atmosphere of tranquility will become more important than ever in this time of economic turmoil. Despite the challenges, we predict that 2009 will be an inspiring year for design and push the boundaries of creativity in new and exciting ways.

7 trends we see for the year ahead:
Comfort Spaces
While the world outside is anything but calm, interiors
will become personal retreats. The home should be a tranquil environment,
a place to relax and unwind at the end of a busy day. Clean lines,
soft warm colours, furniture that is elegant but still functional
and comfortable – a
swing back to more classic and timeless design. With a renewed emphasis
on entertaining at home, homes will be designed to be inviting spaces
where family and friends love to be.
Personalization of Design
2009 will bring an individual approach
to Interior Design. Look for interiors to reflect the personality
of the homeowner and integrate personal, much-loved heirlooms and
long treasured objects in clean and stylish ways.
Quality vs. Quantity
Quality items that will stand the test of time
will win out over the purchase of multitudes of less expensive items.
Investing in one key quality piece – whether it is a unique piece
of art, a silk rug, or an elegant sofa – can elevate the impression
of other existing pieces and the entire space as a whole.
Artisan & Handmade
Pairing clean, simple, modern interiors with one-of-a-kind,
organic or artisan pieces will be the key to accessorizing in 2009.
Some artist’s work we love includes; Dennis and Pascale Girardin.
Responsible Luxury
Gone will be the days of sacrificing quality or
aesthetics for a green product. Expect all brands, even high-end
luxury brands, to begin producing stunning "green" products.
Local Sourcing
Look for Interior Designers to follow the lead of
restaurateurs and begin to "source local." Canada has a
wealth of natural resources from which come beautiful stones and
exciting woods. We are home to many talented Canadian furniture and
accessory designers making incredible pieces. Some local talent we
love for 2009 are Bev Hisey’s Textile designs, Molo Design’s Furniture
pieces, and Loyal Loot Accessories.
New 'ins'
Last but not least for 2009: Grey is the new Black, Bronze
is the new Chrome, and Warm is the new Cool.
