GE has taken ice-management to a whole new level with a number of innovative technologies. From space saving design to quicker ice-cube formation to the reduction of freezer burn GE continues the evolution of ice.
Ice Factory
The Ice Factory takes the ice cube trays and ice storage container out of the main freezer space and houses them in the 3-tray module conveniently placed on the freezer door. The Ice Factory creates a compact and dedicated module for ice production and storage that frees up space in the main freezer compartment.
Quick Ice
When the Quick Ice option is selected the freezer fan comes on to circulate the cold freezer air around the icemaker to speed the production of ice. In a 48 hour period, Quick Ice produces 50% more ice; this option is great when preparing to entertain or for any occasion that requires greater ice production.
FrostGuard™ Technology Adaptive Defrost System
Frost-free refrigerators defrost automatically. Most defrost based on time, regardless of whether or not it's necessary. Adaptive defrost means that the refrigerator will only defrost as needed. It accounts for door openings and usage to determine when it's necessary to defrost and how long the defrost cycle needs to run. It also utilizes a "Pre-Chill" function to lower the freezer temperature prior to the defrost cycle. This lowering of freezer temperature allows the freezer to return to its set temperature point more quickly once the defrost cycle is complete. All this amounts to less thawing of foods and refreezing during the defrost cycle. Result - reduced freezer burn.
