Spring-Cleaning the Feng Shui Way

Feng Shui is a real buzzword in the world of design. Most people envision rooms without a speck of furniture, white walls and a tranquility fountain trickling softly somewhere in the background.

This is far from the truth. Feng Shui is, in fact, the ancient art of harmonious living – between you and your environment, namely your home. It’s also about bringing in as much positive energy as you can while removing anything negative. So when it comes to spring-cleaning, taking some tips from the art of Feng Shui is the perfect place to start.

First and foremost, try to make spring-cleaning an enjoyable task. Open the windows, put on some music, stock up on some healthy high-energy munchies or hire a cleaning service and go for a picnic.

But if you do decide to stick it out yourself don’t drive yourself crazy or put any undue pressure on yourself. Take your time. Make a list and do one chore a day. For instance, spend a day getting the cleaning supplies you’ll need. Spend another cleaning out your closet. The next, go around and put stickers on any large items like furniture or electronics you plan on giving away or getting rid of.

Speaking of which, here’s a good rule of thumb for any kind of home organization. If you don’t use it, haven’t worn it or simply hate it – get rid of it!

Now that you’ve taken care of the bad energy, it’s time to bring some good energy in. One of the best ways to do that is through light. If you have heavy curtains consider replacing them with lighter translucent ones. Another way is to clean your windows – scraping off the remnants of winter. And an even easier way to incorporate positive energy into your home is by periodically going out and buying fresh flowers you can prop around the house.

Nobody denies that spring-cleaning isn’t work, but it doesn’t have to be a miserable experience either. And when you’re through there’s no doubt that you, your family, and your home will feel all the better for it.
